An Interactive Memoir
Jerry Ross, the Painter

"To be truly lost is to have, in fact, found the Way"

From the Projects to Kenmore

The family was situated in the “Projects” on the harbor of Buffalo, in fact on “Harbor Walk."  Soon the family had relocated to Kenmore, a Buffalo suburb.  I have very little or no memory of the Harbor Walk part of my life.  Supposedly my aunt Helen had moved in to take care of me and my brother when my mother was hospitalized.

I remember none of this. My first firm memories are of Kenmore or actually “The Town of Tonawanda” on the edge of Kenmore. Ours was a pretty bleak industrial suburb although our street, “Girard Boulevard” was wide and served well for touch football games.  It seems a good part of my childhood was playing baseball in the abandoned lot behind Bonner’s Tavern and right next to our house and touch football in the street.
